| California-born, transplanted to NY, my home for more than 30 years now. Spent time living on a commune, learning commercial art and design, copywriting, and after abandoning the advertising business, began a business in trading and retailing fine American Indian arts with my wife. Began writing fiction out of the University of Oregon, in 1971 and began writing seriously about 10 years ago. I don't do well as a member of much of anything.

Outstanding Debut Novel Published: The Red Gate, by Richard Sutton. Set in the troubled days just before the establishment of the Irish Republic, it traces the story of how a very traditional, Western Irish farming family learned of an ancient secret holding them to their land and to an ancient promise. in the process of an unexpected discovery they must open up their lives to defend themselves from a devious plan that tries to reveal their secret to the world. This they must prevent at all cost. The book will transport you to the Land of Legend and make you laugh and cry while feeling cozy. 365 pages, US$11.95, available direct from the POD publisher at https://www.createspace.com/Preview/1057177, where an excerpt is available for your reading pleasure and comments. "I've always believed that the longevity and durability of traditional cultures in the face of impossible adversity is testament not only to the strength of the people, but indeed may be seen as a clue to the existence of "magic" in the modern world!" says the author. Mr. Sutton goes on to add "I suppose that learning from the past is something we all need to improve to preserve the way we live -- something that's going to be necessary, quickly!" He went on to explain that in his understanding, mankind has been around for a long, long time, and has had to learn the major lessons of how to make society work, over and over again because the wisdom and knowledge of earlier civilizations seems to always be mislaid or forgotten. "10,000 years ago, ice destroyed whatever had gone before, and a new society had to be built, but maybe some of the lessons from before the ice still exist...somewhere safe, guarded away from the world?" Could our future survival be assured by lost lessons from thousands of years ago? This book, the first of a trilogy of novels, considers this idea and its impact upon people suddenly thrust into unwanted confrontation.
