Take a Culinary Journey to the Caribbean Today

02/16/10
By Stacey Torres

If the recent arctic blast to hit our area has sent you into a new realm of winter doldrums, The Bajan’s Granddaughter will lift your spirits and take you to a place in time where exotic comfort foods, and rich family values prevail.

The Bajan’s Granddaughter is a delightful collection of traditional West Indian recipes and anecdotes, tracing the journey of the author’s family from the tiny Caribbean island of Barbados through Canada and ultimately the United States. Not just another ordinary cookbook, The Bajan’s Grand! daughter is laced with humor and reflections of life and folklore.

The author, Henry County resident, SM Maupin (a/k/a Stacey Maupin Torres) is the first member of her family born on American soil. Before moving to Indiana in 1967, Ms. Torres grew up in the household of her West Indian grandparents in Queens, New York. The book chronicles life in America for the family, culminating in a bazaar of delicious recipes that can easily be duplicated today by the average reader. Most of the recipes of the dish have a brief description and history of the dish.

"An excellent and delightful read; Yummy!" J. Darroll Hall, No. 1 best selling fiction and financial author.

The Bajan’s Granddaughter is SM Maupin’s first published book (published by Fantasy Island Book Publishing). It is currently available as an e-book in the Kindle Store of Amazon.com with wireless delivery via Amazon Whispernet. Kindle books can be downloaded to a Kindle device, iPhone or IPod Touch. In addition, the Kindle software can be downloaded for free onto your personal computer, making all Kindle books available for download.
