New Novel Takes on the Stupidity Crisis in America

01/18/10
By Jack Fitzgerald

VIVA LA EVOLUCION by Jack Fitzgerald is a humorous and satirical take on our present-day political foll! ies, social exaggerations, hype and contradictions in human behavior—i.e. American Stupidity.

Imaginative New Novel VIVA LA EVOLUCION Takes on the Stupidity Crisis in America.

Tap water’s 60,000 contaminants will soon turn citizens into apes.

Viva La Evolución: The Truth Behind The Alexander Hayward Project by Jack Fitzgerald is a humorous social and political satire that takes on our present-day social mores, political vices, follies of excess and exaggeration, religious dipsomania, mind-controlling hype and umpteen contradictions in human behavior —i.e. American stupidity.

In Fitzgerald’s book, a young California evolutionary biologist, Alexander Hayward, creates the Neotony Project, a government grant operation which delves into the massive “nobody home upstairs” dilemma going on presently  in the USA. He tries to get to the bottom of WHY so much mor! onism is afoot in our country.

If you don’t know who Jack Fitzgerald is, you certainly will after reading his new book Viva La Evolución. The author wittily navigates the reader through a minefield of humor and edgy social commentary in the vein of Bill Maher, George Carlin and Noam Chomsky.

Viva La Evolución is biting yet at times touching. The book factually maps out our current obsession with the trivial, vacuous and absurd. All are held up to the magnifying glass of satirical humor and irony. Most books taking on present-day cultural mores end up leaving the reader depressed. Fitzgerald says, “I think much like George Bernard Shaw when he stated that if you want to tell people the truth, you’d better make them laugh or else they’ll kill you.”

Dr. Hayward, the young evolutionary biologist in Viva la Evolución, beli! eves that slowly but surely our population is headed toward becoming a nation of knuckle draggers. He sees evidence that points out gorillas may no longer be our evolutionary cousins but are fast becoming our siblings.

Viva La Evolución recounts the way glorified thugs have taken over much of our country and how daily so many ordinary Americans indifferently go their merry ways in a fog of ignorance, apathy, hype and moronity. As George Carlin said, “The IQ and the life expectancy of the average American recently passed each other going in opposite directions.”

Fitzgerald is also the author of two other books, Contessa and Paris Plays, as well as many plays and screenplays. The International Herald Tribune says of his writing, “Fitzgerald has an uncanny knack of capturing American types and speech; it is in their conversation and present-day mores that Fitzgerald’s talent shines. Fitzgerald is so adept with a pen he can make the improbable seem believable, utterly believable.”

Fitzgerald attended Mississippi State University, Middlebury College, Cambridge University, The Sorbonne and holds an MA from the University of Madrid. He resided for nine years in Paris where he established the only permanent English language theater, The Paris English Theatre. Nine of his plays had their initial productions there.

According to Fitzgerald, “Satire is traditionally the weapon of the powerless against the powerful. Human vices, follies, abuses or shortcomings are held up to censure by means of ridicule, derision, burlesque and irony. Ideally the intent is to bring about social and cultural improvement.”

Between this book’s covers, a booklover will discover ample entertainment and food for thought.
