Inspired by the real Gypsy and Jasmine, Haflinger ponies that happily graze in her pastures, author Rochelle Carithers writes a whimsical book about a very special girl, Callie, who needs a little horse magic in her life. Along the way meet Krugerrand, the dressage horse who will teach Callie she can have a new Olympic dream, and fall in love with Jack, Callie’s pesky little brother, a pint sized cowboy who insists on coming along for the ride. The author Rochelle Carithers was born horse crazy, and spent her childhood riding with the wind on her pony Sugar. After a 20-year career in the Air Force, she retired, bought a few acres of land and started looking for a few horses to put in her new pastures. Seven horses and a donkey later, (also a few goats and a crazy sheep) she turned to one of her other first loves, writing. This book is a labor of love, dedicated to her Grandmother, the inspiration for Rochelle to go after her dream. Illustrator Caressa Weber is a very talented young artist, and she brings the characters to life in her delightful illustrations. Sprinkled within the book are little miniature sketches of Spots, created by Caressa so kids can look throughout the book and "Find Spots".
