In “Al-Battani Shield”, Lalani sets the stage by explaining the complex relations between myriad physical factors that make our earth’s climate so livable and enjoyable. He then discusses various threats to the delicate balance between the forces that shape our climate and how that balance can be upset, perhaps irrevocably, resulting in a runaway heating or cooling.

Lalani does not take sides between those who declare that a severe climate change is imminent and those who dismiss those warnings as left wing propaganda. Nor does he pontificate about human culpability (or lack thereof) in its causation. Instead he proposes a space-engineering solution that is achievable and may be acceptable to both Al Gore and Sarah Palin!
