Click here to sign up for hosting at
HostMonster.com (new window will open)
Once at HostMonster, click Sign Up Now
If you do not yet have a domain name, enter your
desired domain name in the New Clients box,
and select Next. Signing up for a 12 month
or 24 month plan allows you a free domain name.
Two years is the best value, only costing you
$166.80 ($84.40 a year equivalent) for hosting,
domain name, domain name privacy, and lots of
tools to include (of course) your own Blog.
If you already have a domain name, put the domain
name you own in the Transfer Clients box,
then select Next. You will be able to transfer
the domain yourself, or HostMonster will help you
do it.
After you are all signed up, you will receive your
password for your control panel to your
HostMonster account. As a reminder, a HostMonster representative will call to verify your account. This is a good thing as it helps eliminate fraud,
and assure you that you are dealing with a great
hosting company.
Using your Control Panel account and password
(your account will be your domain name,) sign in
to set up your Blog.
Once you are into your control panel, you will see
lots of great promotional options. As you scroll
down your panel, the first thing you should do is
establish your own email account under your
domain. This is located under the fourth panel
labeled Mail. Select the Email Accounts
icon to set up your email. Email is available to
download to Outlook and to view online.
Next, scroll down to the 10th panel named
Software / Services. Once there, select the
smiling logo called Fantastico De Lux. You
will be then taken to a page that shows you all
the software you can use for free. As we are
focused on setting up your Blog, see the second
section at the top left called Blogs.
You will see that you have three to select from.
Each are good and have features that allow for the
automatic syndication of your content. All allow
picture and video upload and have great online
community support. You can load each to test, and
if you do not like that particular Blog, you can
easily unload it by using the same Fantastico
De Lux section, selecting the Blog type, then
selecting Delete. This is an easy way to select
the style you want to use. Each Blog has their
own control panel allowing you to control comments
to your posted articles as well as set other
security related features. One of the simplest to
set up (and most popular) is the WordPress
blog.
Following these steps, you can have your own
domain name, hosting, and Blog up and running in
less than 15 minutes. Post your own articles in
any number of categories that you create. Post
permanent links to your books, and even use your
blog to make additional income by posting your
own affiliate ads.
